Negatives

Notes for Parents and Teachers

Negative numbers often cause a lot of confusion. The best way to understand how they work is to use a number line, and to think of negatives as the opposite of positives, a bit like a reflection in a mirror. The adding and subtracting activity is not quite ready yet, but the other one is good to go. Work through it carefully and you should become an expert!

The best way to understand how positive and negative numbers work is to use a number line.  The line can either go vertically or horizontally.

In this activity, you have to see if you can place the numbers correctly on the lines on the sheet.

IMPORTANT: THIS ACTIVITY IS NOT READY YET. THE VIDEOS ARE NOT FINISHED. LET ME KNOW IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO TRY IT AND I WILL MAKE THEM FOR YOU.

In this activity, we are going to find out where points end up if we make coordinates negative or positive.

Then we find out how to use coordinates to make points go in vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines.
